Abstract:
The Linear Collider (LC) Time Projection Chamber (TPC) goal is to measure ~ 200 track points with a resolution of better than 100 microns. The target resolution is close to the statistical limit from transverse diffusion in the gas. Using a new concept of charge dispersion in a micro pattern gas detector (MPGD) with a resistive anode, an MPGD readout may enable the TPC to reach the LC resolution goal. We present here results on cosmic ray track resolution of a GEM-TPC using the charge dispersion signal. The resolution was measured for 2 x 6 mm pads and drift distances of up to 15 cm. The dependence of measured resolution on the drift distance is consistent with transverse diffusion in the gas.
